There is also the use of using Google Latitude to connect with friends and see them on a map as well. However, this requires that the person accepts as a friend into their network for it to work. Though technology has advanced, it is still relatively limited when it comes to finding people by their cell phone.

If you are looking for a person or have lost your own cell phone and want to find it, you may be able to find the location of the cell phone by using GPS tracking. However, this has to be installed on your phone prior to needing to use it. However, with the above methods you do have to have the software already installed on the phone or phones that you want to track. It will not work after the phone is already lost. So it has to be pre-installed before every needing it. With Google Latitude the person has to accept you as a friend on there to track them. If they do not accept you will not be able to see them or track them. It is still very limited when it comes to being able to find a location by a cell phone. These are privacy issues and typically you can not add someone to a cell phone service provider tracking system without them being a part of your service plan.

However, you do always want to be careful when doing this, since it could be considered wire tapping for instance since the person does not know you are tracking them.
Although there are these ways to find someone or your own cell phone, the system still has not evolved enough to find anyone with out them being part of a network or something similar. Finding the location of cell phone can be done, but you always want to be careful when doing it and it typically is best that the other person knows that you are tracking them too.
